Charlie, is fifteen years of age and is just starting freshmen year of high school. He isn't really great at making friends and the only friend he did have; Michael, committed suicide the year before. Therefore making him a bit of a walliflower, hence the book's name. Charlie blames himself for his aunts death, whom was his favourite aunt, who died on his birthday.
The books follow through his freshman year and how for the first few days, the only person he finds a friend in is his English teacher Mr Anderson, who gives him extra English assignments. One day in wood-shop class, he meets a senior called Patrick; who befriends him and introduces him to his stepsister called Sam, who Charlie has somewhat of an attraction for. But with new friends and his flashbacks of his aunt's death he hardly acts on it.
Further on in the book, he does act on his feelings for Sam while he's in a relationship with Elizabeth (a member of the group, who he was in a one sided relationship with) and Charlie's friendship with the group disintegrates and his flashbacks of his aunt dying comes more frequently but they do reconcile after Charlie sticks up for Patrick in a fight.
We find out many things in this book; Charlie's relationship with his aunt and how that isn't all that it seems, Charlie's sister's relationship, her boyfriend and Patrick's secret.
In the end we see how Charlie just has a truly deserved breakdown.
This is a really good book; one of the best I've read and I'd recommend it to any one who asked. It's a really emotional and page turning book, it just really grabs out to you.
See you all soooooon!
Lizzy!
Aven's input: I loved it too; although the ending really confused me and I had to have Lizzy to explain it. In which I understood fully it was quite dark, but that's the reality. Any-who; a really good read if you're up for it. Yes it's also a film, so you can be lazy... But remember the film is never ever as good as the book! (Well, in some rare cases, it is... But shh!).
