Hello! Um. I've never done this review thing before. But what the hell!
So this book is called Skulduggery Pleasant. So far there are eight books in the series. It's been a while since the first one was released; and I'm mid-way through the eighth. So instead of writing a review on the first one, or the eighth one; I'll do a review on the previous seven combined.

So the books are written by Derek Landy, based in modern day Ireland. The main character is Stephanie Edgley; whom lives with a normal mother, and a normal father. Actually, that's a lie. Her dad is strange. No, I don't mean he's a magical being or anything. He's just a strange bloke. Stephanie's uncle is a man named Gordon; he's an author. Before we get to know this character; he dies in the comfort of his home... Which is more of a mansion. Actually... It's more of a manor. The important part; is that in Gordon's will; the manor is left to Stephanie! This all happen in the first book. One night; Stephanie remains by herself in the manor; and she is attacked, before being rescued by Skulduggery! The title of the book! (And a skeleton) He came in and saved the day! Woo!
Skulduggery is introduced as sarcastic, and quite a mysterious character. Stephanie; through Skulduggery, is introduced to a whole new world that was hidden from her for her entire life. She meets sorcerers that range from elementals, to Adepts! An elemental's source of power comes from.. Well, the elements: Wind, Fire, Water and Earth. Adepts on the other hand; have only one ability. The problem is, it could be anything! Making it harder to predict. An adept's ability could vary from being able to phase through rock, or shape-shift into a fox. Once Stephanie becomes well-acquainted with her elemental abilities; she gets to choose her new name... Which helps her out in an unfortunate incident with a character called China Sorrows... You see; every sorcerer has three names; their True Name, their Taken Name; and their Given Name. A sorcerer's given, and true-name are pre-determined, but their taken name, is chosen by them.
Stephanie Edgley is now Valkyrie Cain. Later down the line, she fin'd out her ancestors are in fact, the ancients; a powerful magical race that dominated Ireland; and saved it from evil beings like the faceless ones. To sum it all up, Valkyrie and Skulduggery partner up as detectives, and save the world multiple times, from: different, dark, evil, enemies.

I would strongly recommend these books to everybody. I'm not a fan of the whole fantasy-esque books, but these were just amazing. They kept me reading all of the time, and in each page you expected at LEAST a chuckle out of it.
