Artemis Fowl - the arctic indecent by Eoin Colfer

Artemis Fowl is back for another thrilling adventure. Now this was the first of the Artemis collection I read. Yes it was the 2nd book the the series, but it didn't really make it confusing at all; it fills in a lot of information, so it doesn't leave you stranded. What it did do, is make me want to read the first book; which I did... After getting my mum to buy me the whole collection. Well I say that, but it was my money. I'm just too under-age to buy things online.

Any-who back to business. Artemis is back and Holly is left to keep an eye on our little trouble maker as he is-

Lizzy: evil

Yes, but I as going to say well know for his misdoings.

Lizzy: and that sounds stupid. My way is easier to understand.

Fine! Our evil trouble maker. Is he up to no good? Quite the opposite... Well for most of the story anyway. He has received a transmission from Russia, it tells Artemis that a group of not so happy business men, we shall call them; that they have Artemis' father and want ransom. However we all know things aren't going to go quite to plan. Especially when it's highly likely that the other end won't hold up, on their side of the deal. Not to fear! Artemis will be getting some help from our favourite elf, Holly and annoying Centaur; Foaly.

Where there's an Artemis, there is trouble.

So pick up a copy and find out what happens in the all new arctic ...

Lizzy: I've already read it. It was really good. Not as good as Percy Jackson, which I'm currently reading. But it was good.

You only read like the first 3 or 4 books. Anyway, you really need to finish it.

Lizzy: I will... eventually but I got more Percy Jackson, so it'll take some time.

Thanks for reading

Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer

An original story to say the least. We have our main character; Artemis Fowl, as you could've guessed from the title. As most of these stories go: boy discovers fairies by accident, they become friends, save the world, etc. And this is what you think is going to happen, yes?

Wrong!
Yes Artemis discovers fairies, but it is no accident. It is a well thought out plan made by an twelve year old prodigy.

Lizzy: don't forget evil

Sorry; evil twelve year old prodigy, who believes strongly in the idea of fairies and goes in search of them with his faithful butler, Butler. Yes his name is Butler.

Lizzy: and I wouldn't mock him, he may be human but he signal handedly took on a troll!

Would you stop interrupting please.

Lizzy: I will if you stop missing out important details.

Okay just be quiet. Anyway this "evil" genius resides in fowl manor, Ireland. His family fortune is diminishing and running low; after his father's disappearance, who is considered dead. He has to think quick. Being "evil" he deals in the black market and other underground activities, but it's not quite enough. So what is Artemis to do, you ask? Kidnap and hold a fairy for ransom, as you do. But fairy technology is a lot more advanced than the humans. Well he succeed in his ridiculous plot or will it all be for nothing. Pick up a copy and find out.

Dragon Orb - Longfang by Mark Robson

*WARNING*
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

On the third book... and it just keeps getting better and better.

Pell has his orb... but discovers some disturbing truths along the way, he begins to question the Oracle's motives in this mission and Shadow tells the whole group; causing tension. Pell finally decides to help but continues being difficult.

Now that Segun knows of the mission 'To Save the Oracle'; he is determined to end it and he gets pretty close too; nearly catching Pell and Elian with the dark orb, but they managed to narrowly escape through a portal made by Aurora the Dawn Dragon.
But however... In doing so; they endanger the lives of Kira and Nolita by leaving them behind to face the wrath of Segun. (But they're fine, don't worry).

The orb they're aiming to get, is the dusk orb, which has some pretty helpful uses to the group unlike the first two, which only brought trouble; such as Pell's night orb which took him to the edge of sanity and Nolita's orb that attracted some murderous trouble.

Although finding where the dusk orb is located, will be difficult... especially when the answer is in a huge library and you can't read... But not to worry! There's plenty of scholars on hand, who'd love to help!

Segun sets up a trap, in which he uses all of the night dragons in the enclave; to blockade the entrance to the Oracle's cave. Lets hope this isn't too much of a problem for the gang.

When Pell and Elian arrive at the Oracle's cave; it is trap free (for now anyway).
Having no clue on where they should go and with Pell out of his mind; they convince (if not force) the Oracle to tell them the location of the third orb.

Both groups having the answer they need; rush off to "the place where the shadows dwell" and let's hope they can get there before Segun; whom is up to his old murderous tricks again.

Again another masterpiece from Mark Robson... Only one book left to go! I don't want it to end... But I do want to know what happens next.

Well everything in life comes to an end eventually; so we'll let this run its course.
Now if you haven't read this book; I strongly advise you do. You're really missing out on a great adventure.

Well I hope I have inspired at least one person to read this book,

Until next time,

Dragon Orb - Firestorm by Mark Robson

I first discovered this book at a library except well it was just book two of the series "shadow" so of course it made very curious as to what was in the first and next two books. So after a while my mum finally bought them for me. The book themselves are a bit on the short side with about 300 pages and having a fast reading speed I went through them quite quickly though I re-read them about five times and somehow I always found out something new. It was probably where I read to fast and skipped bits but it was still fun.

Anyway getting back to the story. The blurb tells us about two of our main characters, Nolita who unfortunately has a lot of irrational fears and as you can probably guess dragons are one of them also with a slight case of OCD. So when a day dragon named Fire shows up on her door step telling her that they are now life partners it's not going to go very well. Our next character is a boy called Elian who has also just come face to face with his soon to be life partner the dawn Dragon Aurora. The dragons tell them of the mission they must complete as it is the Dragons life purpose. So Elian sets off on his journey to meet the Oracle who will set a mission. He then bumps into Kira and her dusk Dragon fang who also haven't be together that long. Then they both meet Nolita and get her to come with them to the Oracle. Where they meet their final companions Pell and shadow the night Dragon.

The Oracle gives them the mission of finding the four Dragon orbs that will save their world, however all they have to go on is a riddle. Pell who has been riding the longest with a couple of years under his belt immediately appoints himself the leader which doesn't sit to well with the other especially Kira. So from tension within the group to vicious Dragon-Hunters on their tail it's not going to be an easy ride.

I really enjoyed this book series and not just because it had Dragons. No it is beautifully written, very creative and has some very unique ideas presented throughout the book. My favourite character in this book was Pell and his Dragon Shadow I don't know why maybe I found him more interesting than others but I'm sure many would disagree however his personal journey through the books just captivated me.

I really hope I've convinced at least one person to read this book.

Throne of glass by Sarah J. Maas

  • Throne of glass is the latest book I have been reading. From my personal taste, I really enjoyed this book.
It has a strong female protagonist named Celaena Sardothien who is 18 years old which I liked because usually it's a male or when it is a female she is usually shown as a weak, needy and useless until her main roll comes along. She has a strong, sassy personality to say the least, she is very intelligent, with good athletic ability which thanks to the year in Endover has decreased imencily. Her background it's self led to four short stories which are prequels to the main novel. The blurb tells us of Celaena who is/was Adarlan's greatest assassin however she is is now slaving away in a filthy salt mine of Endovier serving a life sentence. She was trained by the king of assassins but made one fatal mistake. She got caught. <-most of Celaena life story before her capture is written in the four short prequels.

The young cocky crowned prince of Adarlan offers Celaena a deal, her freedom for one sacrifice. Celaena must represent the Prince in a to-the-death tournament - fighting the most gifted thieves in the land. This is the main setting to the story but there is a lot of clockwork ticking away in the background that slowly unvails as the story progresses.

Plot summery;
  • The story starts with the Prince making the deal with Celaena who agrees with "of course I'm going to take the offer,I'll be your absurd champion if you agree to free me in three years, not five. (They settle on four which is still good).
  • They then travel to the glass palace in Rifthold. She is shown to her room, where she meets her maid Philippa who tells Celaena off for using her real name (is convinced to use an alias of Lillian Gordaina to conceal her identity)
  • They are given a set amount of weeks to complete training in which one consistent will be eliminated each test unroll four are left for a final duel.
  • As the training gets under way strange things begin to happen, consistent are being murdered but who is behind it. Unfortunately Celaena is the one who Destiny has chosen to find out. With a mysterious princess from a rebelling country, a meddling ghost of the first queen, jealous court lady's, blood thirty contestants, controlling babysitter and an evil king plus the contest it's not going to be easy.
I did really enjoy reading this book the plot twists really kept things interesting and the cliff hangers at the end of chapters I couldn't put this book down. However this probably won't be everyone's cup of tea as it contains adventure, romance, mystery, magic and murder. However if you like these then this book come highly recommend with detailed plot and character analysis you'll feel apart of the story.

After reading the book or if you have read it, I would love to hear you'd opinion about it. If you love it as much as me or even if you hated it. Who was your favourite or least favourite character.
